Ex-Treasury chief the Harvard professor is exiting the board at the ChatGPT creator, just several days after a collection of electronic messages between him and notorious criminal the disgraced billionaire became widely known.

Summers commented in an announcement that he was "grateful for the opportunity to have contributed, enthusiastic about the promise of the enterprise, and look forward observing their progress".

The prominent academic, who once headed the Ivy League institution, stated on recently that he would be scaling back from public responsibilities due to his association with Epstein.

Digital Correspondence

The newly public messages revealed that Summers communicated with Epstein until the eve of Epstein's 2019 arrest for suspected trafficking of underage individuals.

In a separate statement, the technology organization stated it accepted the economist's determination to step down.

"We value his numerous inputs and the insight he brought to the Board," the company commented.

Political Context

This news comes after the entire Congress of the legislative branch agreed on Tuesday to approve a bill that would compel the federal prosecutors to make public its documents on Epstein.

The measure will afterward head to the administration of US President Donald Trump for approval. The President has stated he intends to approve the measure, after modifying his view on the subject following objections from his base.

After the correspondence were released with the wider community, the former official said he accepted "full responsibility for my poor decision to maintain corresponding with the financier".

Following Summers' announcement on Monday, the Washington think tank, a liberal policy institute in DC where Summers was a prominent member, verified that he was not connected with the institution.
